young restless idiots fishing for souls along the unnamed avenues in the unnamed city in the unnamed country with the blinding lights that make you squint. Whether or not to do drugs. And if so, what kind, how many? Is it O.K. to do drugs if you’re poor, but not if you’re rich, if you’re rich you must drink alcohol in snifters the unnamed liqueur from the wet bar next to the bookshelves with the fifty-six leather bound unnamed books which one out of five have had some sort of award or another or at least been on the bestseller’s list. And maybe one unknown author whom you have claimed as your own as a testament to your cultured originality. Others walk the avenue and drop out of college to follow their dreams until they find sufficient distractions to shut them up and make them live in a crappy apartment and drive an eighty-seven olds’ and have troubled relationships but never regret dropping out of school because the poverty allows them to smoke marijuana and drink beer. Starting out with the Guinness and Beck’s but ending up with good old Bud Light ten years later to lessen the bulge in their stomachs (or thighs). Then one day they remember that old talent that they had that had set them apart from those who went to college and they take heart in that memory, forgetting that the dream was possible to fulfill at one time. His heart is in advertising. His dreams are in construction and architecture. His love is for accounting. And her? She wants to be a real estate agent for the rest of her life, maybe start a family. You get what you settle for, you get what you settle for, you get what you settle for, you get what you settle for. This is the real world, people have to make a living you settle for the real world so that you can make a living because you are not sure whether or not you know how to live. Make a living, live. Make a living, live. Make a living, live. The Island of Dumb. People want to be….And keep their dreams a secret, for never tested, a dream is really and kept a dream. Aren’t they beautiful things?
