2011 Le Bel Homme (The Plan) Excerpt – Guilt in Cafe
(guilt in cafe)
YOU did absolutely nothing today although the day is only just begun you have a feeling you’ll do nothing so as a good catholic you might as well get a head start on the guilt now. At least you can do that. For what is vacation but a time of guilt renewal? You spend a week doing next to nothing and spending too much money that you don’t have so that when you return you feel like such a useless, lazy schmuck that you can spend another 50 weeks working off that guilt steam – such is the method of guilt based economy, a motivation that built empires and which is the true engine of the puritan/catholic America. Insecurity and low self esteem are the flying buttresses of commerce. You feel bad, you over drink, over eat, go to movies, go to the chiropractor; you feel good you treat yourself, you treat others, and you donate to charity. The universal manic depression, mild or otherwise, of the Industrialized Citizen of the West is the tide of the global commercial ecosystem. It stirs up the waters, pulling this way then that, dusting up the nutrients to feed the plankton (are the plankton the vast majority of humanity without the luxury of letting their mood affect anything because they’re too busy not dying or is the plankton the ghostly memes of order and self organization, the social construct we are all so wrapped up in, created in, but which has become so huge and all encompassing that it no longer actually serves anything so mundane as a human being?). No that is the whale. Anyways the coffee at the super expensive resort bar is cold and you are not going to complain because you’re a schmuck who did nothing today and besides you’re not even a guest here.
